Breast Augmentation: Patient 96

Breast Augmentation: Patient 96

Breast Augmentation: Patient 96

This 18-year-old lady came to see me with her mother.  Often these younger patients come with their parents who very often are very supportive of their goals.   Unfortunately she had not developed much of her own breast tissue and was very self-conscious of this.  She is in great physical shape but this is something that without a little surgical help is not able to change herself.  She sought breast augmentation and there are several things that young patients must understand.  First of all, only saline breast implants are available for patients under 18 years of age for cosmetic use.  In reconstructions this is different but the FDA guidance is that only patients over 22 years of age get silicone.  The reasoning behind this is very unclear and not explained by the FDA.  The other thing that young patients should consider is that they will more than likely need revisional surgery to their breasts for things like leaks and size changes as well as revisions post pregnancies for shape changes and lifts.  Implants do not last forever and the younger you are when you receive them the more times you will likely require revisions.  This patient is shown before and after surgery with 330cc saline breast implants.  She is delighted with her new proportional self, able to be more self confidant in bathing suits and dresses, and overall very happy!
