I have heard about Motiva Breast Implants for years as they have been so popular with my colleagues throughout the world who have had access to them for the last 14 years. Thus, when these 6th generation breast implants became FDA approved in the United States in 2024 I was extremely excited.
I have to say I have not been disappointed at all. Just holding and manipulating the implant reveals a device that feels to me more substantial than previous generation implants from Mentor, Sientra, and Allergan. When I hand the implants to prospective patients to hold they almost universally like the feel of the new Motiva Breast Implant.
In the operating room they look beautiful, and I have now had many patients returning months down the road with beautiful, soft wonderful results. They are ecstatic with their results and I am happy for them knowing that the safety data shows extremely low rupture rates as well as low capsular contracture rates compared to previous generations.
The SmoothSilk surface is something we need to understand. Science shows that this nano surface leads to very low inflammation with lower capsular contracture rates. Of course we need to worry and think about BIA-ALCL which has been associated with breast implants with more aggressive textures. There has not been a case report of these implants associated with BIA-ALCL and throughout the years we have known that the previous less aggressive texturing from other implants was more infrequently associated with lymphoma so this makes sense and is consistent with previous scientific data. Because of the low propensity to form thick capsules around these implants I no longer am recommending early postoperative breast implant massage and thus the recovery has become even easier for my patients.
Now during consultation I show patients breast implants from all of the manufacturers and we can discuss pros and cons of each. Most of my breast implant patients in South Jersey are choosing to go with the sixth generation Motiva Breast Implant.
While I am still offering implants from all of the manufacturers including Allergan, Mentor, and Sientra, I have been told by the representatives at Establishment Labs (Motiva) that I have used more of these Motiva Breast Implants than any other surgeon in New Jersey and am the #8 ranked user of Motiva throughout the United States as of this month (March, 2025.) As I get more and more experience with these implant I only continue to love them even more. I am happy to be able to offer this exciting technology to my New Jersey and Philadelphia breast implant patients. If your surgeon is still only offering 5th generation breast implants before you get surgery perhaps you should ask why?
