Types of Lasers

We offer multiple types of lasers based on your needs and goals.

The Sciton Joule X is a powerful laser system which offers multiple options for laser resurfacing. It has multiple treatment options that are actually different lasers housed in one platform. Not only is each of these lasers running on different internal electronic components, the external handpieces are changeable for different treatments. Dr. Sorokin offers multiple treatment options:

  • NanoPeel™ – This is a superficial Laser treatment with a 4 to 10 micron ablation of skin. The very outside layer of skin is removed and as this is a superficial treatment the recovery is very quick.
  • MicroLaserPeel™ which treats from 11 microns to 50 microns deep.  As we go deeper, more external skin depth is removed, and the recovery becomes slightly longer.
  • Full Field Eribium Resurfacing of up to 330 microns per pass can deeply resurface the skin, helping to remove old scars, improve texture and pores, and remove blemishes on the skin surface.  In addition this Contour Tunable Laser is the only machine that lets Dr Sorokin independently treat both ablation and coagulation at the push of the button and the pointing of the laser. Such control lets him aggressively resurface the skin like no other laser can deliver.  As this is erbium the recovery typically has less prolonged redness than with a CO2 laser.
  • For resurfacing scars, Dr. Sorokin offers the ProFractional-XC handpiece. This computerized scanning handpiece delivers fractionated erbium. In fractionated treatments, some skin is left behind in a checkerboard pattern allowing a quicker recovery than full field ablation.

An exciting option for facial rejuvenation is HALO™, the world’s first Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL). HALO uses tunable non-ablative (1470nm) and ablative (2940nm) wavelengths to the same treatment area and maximizes results with limited downtime. Dr. Sorokin can obtain a targeted, effective result that improve the skin’s appearance. Intelligent energy delivery, combined with Dynamic Thermal Optimization, ensures precise, even, safe treatments and is virtually painless.

Broadband Light BBL Hero is the strongest IPL available. There are many uses for this innovative technology.  It can treat Acne, Pigmented lesions such as sun spots, vascular lesions such as rosacea and telangectasias, and hair removal.

The GentleMax is usually used for hair removal, and is both an Alexandrite and YAG laser that for some pigmentary issues can be an excellent option.

The CO2 laser is an aggressive, deep resurfacing treatment used to treat facial scarring, wrinkles, pore size and texture taking years off of your skin!

MOXI is the ultimate “lunch time” procedure that is great for those looking to prevent early signs of aging and improve sun damage such as brown spots. For those of you who worship the Jersey Shore, this is a great procedure to remove the sun damage!

MOXI is suitable for all skin types and will gently give your skin a refreshing glow while also preventing further damage.

What to expect from treatment

During this procedure the laser “ablates,” or destroys, the outer layers of your skin that have been damaged by age, sun, acne, wrinkles, or pigmentation problems or spots. Destruction of the older layers of skin prompts the body to generate a fresh, new layer of skin cells. Note that some lasers may be inappropriate for darker skin complexions.

When performing laser skin resurfacing, Dr. Sorokin first cleanses your face of oils and applies an antibiotic ointment. The laser is then used to ablate the top few layers of skin in a controlled manner until the appropriate depth of skin is reached. The procedure commonly is performed with a local anesthetic, with or without sedation.

During the BBL Hero procedure broad band light (BBL) is applied in a High Energy Rapid Output (HERO) protocol. You may have heard of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photo facials and BBL is the next generation of noninvasive, rapid recovery skin resurfacing. BBL treats dark spots, redness, wrinkles, textures, pore size, skin tone, and is an incredibly effective treatment. A series of several treatments spread apart over several months is usually recommended. This is a patient favorite as there is almost no down time.

HALO is the world’s first dual mode fractional laser that delivers both fractional (ablative) and non-fractional (non-ablative) wavelengths of light in the same treatment. This allows us to treat both epidermal and dermal concerns in a single treatment pass. An ablative laser removes the outer layer of skin responsible for sun damage and scarring. The downside of an ablative laser is the recovery. Since the HALO is a computer controlled a fully adjustable treatment we can precisely change how aggressively each patient is treated depending on their goals. The non-ablative laser treats the deeper dermal layers without destroying tissue and causes collagen to be stimulated. Multiple treatments are often required for the results of non-ablative lasers however the recovery is quicker. The HALO combines the best of both worlds by allowing us to completely customize treatments based on the needs of each patient.

MOXI was designed with all skin types in mind. During a MOXI treatment, you may feel a slight prickling sensation on the treated area. It has a minimal recovery period that requires very little downtime. You will experience some redness and warming of the treated area for approximately 3–4 days after a MOXI treatment. The skin will feel slightly rough like sandpaper for a few days and then reveal a new glow! MOXI treatment packages include a series of 3 treatments priced at $2,100, or individually at $800/session.

Our team of advanced laser experts under the guidance of Evan Sorokin, MD are highly trained to help guide you towards the right treatment. We will discuss your concerns, what you want to treat, what your expected outcomes are, and how much downtime you can afford so that you can make the best decision to suit your aesthetic needs.

Recovery Following Laser Skin Resurfacing

Dr. Sorokin’s post-operative instructions for Erbium and CO2 lasers call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time. Topical ointments are applied to the affected area immediately following surgery in order to aid with the healing process, minimize swelling, and control the risk of infection. The skin will be red and may ooze for a period of time. Some discomfort should also be expected, and is controlled with oral medication. While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the post-operative directions. Recovery time varies based on the extent of the resurfacing and the number of procedures completed.
