Breast Augmentation: Patient 229
I like these photos because of the things that they let me discuss with prospective patients. This is a patient who wanted proportional, natural breasts. I believe that she certainly has achieved this with 255cc moderate plus profile gummy bear Sientra breast implants. The topic I would like to discuss is her chest wall asymmetry. She has what is known as pectus excavatum which is common rib cage shape that affects 1 out of 500 people. This "sunken in" breast bone appearance is often more prominent on one side than the other as is on this patient. Because of this when I place implants one will always be tilted in towards the breastbone more than the other and it certainly influences the final outcome. The right breast is a little further back than the left and the base of the breast is higher on this side. Thus the final result has a little asymmetry that there is no getting around. Is it a bad result? Absolutely not! That being said these things should be pointed out to the patient before surgery and pictures of before and after cases really help me educate future patients.
