I am proud to announce that I am the first practice in Southern New Jersey to offer VASER 2 liposelection. Ultrasound assisted liposuction is a method of liposuction where sound waves assist in a more gentle removal of fat with preservation of other tissue structures.
Having trained at the institution the literally wrote the textbook “Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction” I am very interested in the technology behind ultrasound and VASER 2 takes the acclaimed original VASER introduced and FDA approved in 2002 to a new, more powerful level.
VASER is an acronym that stands for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.” Basically the machine causes the fat cells to separate from the connective tissue matrix including blood vessels, nerves, and support matrix. Thus, the term “liposelection.” Other types of liposuction tend to damage these other structures and thus the recovery is longer.
Another recently described advantage of VASER liposuction is skin retraction. A recent study showed 53% skin tightening compared to regular liposuction. Many claims have been made by laser liposuction physicians (SmartlipoTM) for example that skin tightening occurs after this type of liposuction and however I have not myself seen this to a large degree in clinical practice. I have certainly noticed skin tightening with my original VASER machine and will be interested to see if the effect is greater with VASER 2.
