VOLUMA – Injectable Filler
VOLUMA is Allergan’s most volumizing filler and is great for cheeks and the midface. Evan Sorokin, MD, a plastic surgeon in Philadelphia, uses VOLUMA to restore the contours of the face by subtly filling in the apples and hollows of the cheeks.
After treatment, patients feel and look younger with fuller cheeks and softened wrinkles in the areas around the nose and mouth. It is only available to patients over 21 years old.
CONVENIENT LOCATIONS FOR VOLUMA TREATMENTS IN PHILADELPHIA AND CHERRY HILL
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sorokin offers two locations for VOLUMA filler treatments, Philadelphia, PA and Cherry Hill, NJ. Patients can receive treatment in either location at their convenience. Patients can also visit either office for surgical consultations.
Before the injection, Dr. Sorokin will clean the skin and apply a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. VOLUMA injections usually take 10 minutes to fill the apex, apples, and hollows of the cheeks. Patients usually compare the sting of the injection to less than an insect bite. Patients are able to leave immediately after the procedure and return to light activity.
What to Expect
VOLUMA provides instant, visible results that can last up to 2 years. Patients may experience mild to moderate tenderness, swelling, bruising, redness, itching, discoloration, firmness, or bumps at the site of the injections that may last for 2-4 weeks after the procedure.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occuring sugar that binds to water. It is often used in moisturizers to add hydration to the skin. In a natural state it exists deep in our skin, giving plumpness and fullness to the skin. In a synthetic filler such as Juvederm this is made in a laboratory and injected into the skin via syringes and needles to restore volume as we age.
Best candidates for fillers are people in the early aging process who still have good elasticity to the skin. Skin damage and laxity are often better treated with surgical procedures such as facelifts.
Most patients experience one or two days of swelling followed by a nice natural result that becomes stable at about a week after injections.
While the manufacturer states that Voluma lasts up to two years, in Dr. Sorokin’s experience most patients note a clinical effect of about a year.
