Several times a year I see a lady who comes into my practice with very asymmetric breasts that have bothered her for her entire life. Poland's Syndrome is one congenital syndrome that often presents to me with asymmetric breasts. Sometimes the patients are aware of other issues, sometimes they have not noticed and have never been diagnosed. Part of the syndrome is underdeveloped or missing muscles on one side of the chest wall as well as a shortened arm on the same side sometimes with shortened or even fused fingers. Regardless of the cause many patients come in with very asymmetric breasts. In cases like this the surgeon needs to look at the breasts as two separate breasts and do the procedure to make them each look as good as possible. Sometimes one needs a lift (as in this case) and sometimes one does not. It is important to EMPHASIZE to the patient that exact symmetry will never be obtained. That being said, as in the case here we can get them pretty close and make them appear much better. In this case shown I did a mastopexy with an implant on the right and a straight forward breast augmentation on the left. She is shown before and after very pleased with the result. Her bras fit better now, her bathing suits fit better, and she is overall very happy!
