Breast Augmentation: Patient 15

Breast Augmentation: Patient 15

This young lady came to see me for breast enhancement. A common question is the differences between the profiles of implants. I see so many patients who want a specific profile but in truth do not fully understand what makes a moderate or a high profile. The profile of the implant is not how high it will be on the chest wall. It is how far out it sticks from the chest. The common analogy I use is that if you take a pitcher of water and pour it into a bowl, it won't be very high in the bowl. If you take the same pitcher and pour it in a bud vase, the column of water will be much higher. The bud vase is analogous to the high profile implant. High profile implants have narrower diameters and protrude more. Thus, if I want to place a large amount of volume for someone who has a petite chest wall I use a high profile implant. But if I want to deliver the same amount of volume in someone who has a broad chest wall I may use a moderate profile implant. Thus, for every starting breast diameter based on how much volume she wants to increase by there is a proper implant style. There is much confusion over this subject. This lady received 350cc moderate plus silicone implants and has a very nice result.
