Breast Augmentation: Patient 250
This is a lovely patient of mine who came in tired of feeling that her breasts were disproportionately small for her body. She wanted a proportional, natural look after her breast enhancement and certainly did not want a fake appearance. On examination as you can see in the photographs she has a condition called pectus excavatum. This is statistically the most common chest wall abnormality of the ribcage and I see this to many various degrees in my practice. It is important to point this out to patients who may or may not be aware that part of what they do not like about their breast appearance is that the breastbone is set back given the sunken appearance in between the breasts. While there are surgical options to repair the ribcage in extreme circumstances this is not commonly done for mild cases and it must be explained to the patient that even after augmentation they will still have this appearance. Furthermore one side of the ribcage is often set back further than the other and this makes one of the breasts look smaller. Here the left breast starts appearing smaller and this is in part because it is smaller but also because the ribs are set back. I used two different sized implants which help to make better symmetry but cannot completely fix it. She chose Motiva ergonomic Demi profile implants with 300cc on the left and 320cc on the right. She is still early in the recovery process at 6 weeks but already has a shape and symmetry that she loves.
