How Ellacor Works

Like microneedling or a fractional laser treatment, the goal is to reduce wrinkles and improve skin health and appearance. This is achieved by triggering the body’s healing mechanisms.

Microneedling uses tiny needles to deliver a shallow wound that starts collagen production. Fractional laser treatments similarly activate the same mechanism, but the action is thermal ablation and removes a slightly larger channel of dermis, but not completely through the tissue. Ellacor micro-coring uses a tiny, hollow needle to remove the full thickness of the dermal layer. The width of tissue removed is minuscule, there’s little to no bleeding and there are no scars, however the full depth removal is what sets the Ellacor results apart. Because the removal is complete, the skin pulls together evenly from top to bottom for wrinkle reduction and skin tightening.

Treatment takes about 30 minutes, and patients will need take it easy for a few days to allow for healing and optimal results. To achieve the results most patients desire, 2 to 3 treatments are recommended.

The treatment process

The typical Ellacor treatment begins with an injection of local anesthesia into the treatment area or the application of a strong topical numbing cream, to minimize discomfort.

After the patient is numb, the Ellacor hand piece is used. The device will be methodically moved across the treatment area. While in operation, the Ellacor handpick creates a grid-like pattern of micro-cores of extracted skin. Immediately after treatment, there may be pinpoint bleeding that resolves quickly with the application of pressure from a sterile cloth. The micro-wounds will begin closing before the patient leaves the office. No bandages will be needed when leaving.

What is recovery like?

Patients typically wear an occlusive dressing, like a petroleum jelly mask, for 24-48 hours after treatment. Patients are not allowed to wear makeup for a week following treatment, and should avoid sun exposure during this time. Patients typically experience redness, swelling and occasional bruising and are advised to take it easy for three days.

Who is a good candidate for Ellacor?

Anyone experiencing mild to several facial wrinkling in the lower face and wants a non-surgical alternative to a facelift. Patients are typically in their 40s-60s, although it is FDA-cleared for anyone as young as 22 and with Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV.

Patients who have used fillers in the intended treatment area will have to wait at least 6 months after their last filler treatment before pursuing an Ellacor treatment.
