For centuries, poets and storytellers have called the eyes the window to the soul, and it is certainly true that one of the first things others notice is the eyes. So most people want their eyes to look their best. Drooping eyelids, dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles around the eyes may make a person look tired or much older than they really are. Board-certified Cherry Hill, NJ plastic surgeon, Dr. Evan Sorokin, offers eyelid surgery at his New Jersey office for a more refreshed and youthful look. Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, gives women and men a more youthful eye appearance by correcting a variety of concerns like:
- Sagging upper eyelid skin
- Dark circles or bags under the eyes
- Wrinkles surrounding the eyes
- A tired appearance or puffiness due to inherited factors
Dr. Sorokin performs eyelid surgery in about 1-3 hours. He begins by making tiny incisions in the natural contours around the eyes, which in almost all cases leaves no visible scarring. He focuses first on the upper eyelids to remove any excess and hanging skin, and fatty tissue, and then tighten loose skin. He then targets puffiness and dark circles in the lower eyelids. In some instances, Dr. Sorokin might use laser skin resurfacing to smooth the lower eyelid areas or BOTOX to firm fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead region, which will compliment the surgical outcome nicely.
Eyelid Surgery Reviews
"I currently live in Chicago and insist on seeing only Dr. Sorokin for all my needs.I originally went to a supposedly very good plastic surgeon on City Line Ave.who everyone raved about and was terribly dissapointed when he over sold himself and underpreformed by taking my problem of sagging breasts and making them larger sagging breasts.I had to reconstruct 2 years later and chose another supposed top rated dr in Chicago and he gave me a smaller version of the same sagging breasts! Finally,by some miracle,I found Dr. Sorokin and instantly knew by his very thorough consultation,he got me!He understood, big or small wasnt the issue and gave me the shape, size and feel I had always wanted, gave me surgical options never presented to me before while he revised all my past scarring in the process!I decided that his staff was so wonderful and easy to reach for any questions along the way,if ever I wanted to do anything else, I would go to him only.Years later,I had him preform surgery on my hereditarily drooping upper eyelids(they started interfereing with my sight)and I feel 20yrs younger! He's incredible, the girls in his staff are so caring and helpful, they make you feel like your their only patient and follow up on your recovery during the entire process. He really cares about his patients and would never take advantage like some of the surgeons I have come accross.Dr. Sorokin truly wants you to love the way you look and feel and his expertise will help you reach that goal!"- J.I. / Google+ / Jun 18, 2013
"I had three treatments done by Dr. Sorokin. I had Botox, my eye lids done and a chemical peel. I can not tell you how amazing these treatments were. I was satisfied beyond my expectations and everyone told me I looked ten years younger. I know that sounds too good to be true but I could not say enough about the results. I would highly recommend Dr. Sorokin to anyone who wants true results!"- Google User / Google+ / Jun 18, 2011
During/After the Surgery@headingTag>
While the procedure itself is nearly painless, patients sometimes report minor discomfort following the surgery, which can be treated with over-the-counter medication. After surgery, Dr. Sorokin strongly encourages patients to get plenty of rest and limit their movement to speed up the healing process and reduce recovery time. Patients may have difficulty watching television or reading for the first few days after surgery, so patients may want to stock up on music or books on tape to listen to. Also, patients will need to keep their head elevated while sleeping for a couple of days after the procedure to minimize swelling.
For most jobs, patients can return to work in a matter of days, though patients may want to wait for bruising to clear completely. Complications are rare, and patients can minimize the risk for potential problems by carefully following the post-operative directions Dr. Sorokin gives after the surgery.
Eyelid surgery usually costs between $2,500-$5,000, if it is performed alone. Many patients include eyelid surgery with another facial surgery, like a facelift, which will increase the total cost of the procedures.
The results of eyelids surgery should be permanent. As the patient continues to age, excess skin may start to form on the upper eyelids, but this is usually a problem within the brow and can be fixed with a brow lift.
Injectable fillers can be used to add temporary volume into the wrinkles around the skin, but a more permanent solution is eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery is also the only way to get rid of excess skin that makes the eyes sag and droop. Dr. Sorokin will assess the needs of the patient during the consultation and present the best options to achieve the patient’s goals.
During eyelid surgery, Dr. Sorokin makes the smallest possible incisions and he keeps them within the natural creases of the eyelid, so the scars are almost invisible. Each patient will be given post-operative scar care instructions that will help the incisions heal cleanly and fully so they will flatten out and fade into the skin over time.
