Nose Surgery in New Jersey
Your dissatisfaction with the appearance of your nose is as plain as, well, as the nose on your face. Perhaps your nose is crooked or off-center, or maybe you feel that it's too large for your face. Instead, you may be suffering from breathing problems or nasal deformities, and the time has come to take in a breath of fresh air.
Nose surgery (or rhinoplasty) is a procedure to reshape or reduce the size of the nose by sculpting the nasal tissue in order to create a more pleasing look and, in some instances, to correct severe breathing problems. Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, with several hundred thousand operations performed each year. Each individual sees a unique result following rhinoplasty, depending upon such factors as skin texture, nasal and facial structure, genetic contributions, and age. Traditionally, "nose jobs" were performed only to correct major problems, but recent surgical innovations allow individuals seeking cosmetic solutions to benefit from the procedure as well.

Reasons for Considering Nose Surgery in New Jersey
Dr. Sorokin hears many reasons why his patients have chosen rhinoplasty, including to:
- Bring a better proportion to the nose and facial features
- Reduce the size of the nose that is too large or too wide
- Correct an overly arched or "Roman" nose
- Re-form a crooked or elongated nose tip
- Restore the nose if damaged from an accident or sports injury
- Help with breathing problems by rebuilding the nasal passage
- Treat nasal deformities caused at birth
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty generally takes one to three hours. Depending on your goals and your existing nose size and shape, two surgical methods are available. The "open" technique allows Dr. Sorokin maximum visibility and control over the procedure. The small incision used as part of this technique is placed between the nostrils on the columella (the strip of skin attaching the bottom of the nose to the upper lip). In the "closed" technique, Dr. Sorokin makes internal incisions to access the nasal structure. This technique offers faster healing and less chance of scarring, but Dr. Sorokin does not have as much opportunity to make precise refinements to the nasal structure. Under either method, once the skin has been opened Dr. Sorokin carefully reshapes the cartilage and bone based on the desired shape and size you are seeking. Which technique is best for you will be discussed during your initial consultation.
Recovery Following Your New Jersey Nose Surgery
Dr. Sorokin encourages rest and limited movement for the first day after surgery in order to promote healing. Swelling of the nose and bruising around the eyes may occur, but will gradually decrease over a couple of weeks following surgery. A splint, bandages, and gauze are applied immediately following surgery to minimize movement of the nose. Patients who smoke must quit for several weeks both before and after surgery, and those who wear eyeglasses must tape them up so that they do not rest on the nose. You will need to protect your nose from sun exposure for the first year after the procedure. Any pain that follows the surgery can be effectively treated with over-the-counter medication and cold compresses in almost every case.
Through his extensive training and experience performing nose plastic surgery, New Jersey cosmetic surgeon Dr. Sorokin is able to give you an enhanced, more appealing look.
