Chemical Peels
Many of our Philadelphia and New Jersey plastic surgery patients say they feel younger on the inside, but they're frustrated by dull, lifeless skin, wrinkles, or other flaws caused by aging and exposure to the elements. Thankfully, Dr. Sorokin can assist these patients through the use of a chemical peel to access more vibrant skin layers and encourage the growth of fresh, revitalized surface skin.
A chemical peel is an aesthetic procedure performed to achieve better skin tone and remove fine lines, especially on the face. The chemical solution removes outer layers of skin which are damaged by age, sun, acne, wrinkles, or pigmentation problems. Removing the outer skin prompts the body to generate a new layer of skin cells that are not affected by the previous skin condition.

Reasons for Considering a Chemical Peel
Our Philadelphia and New Jersey plastic surgery patients have chosen chemical peel to:
- Reduce facial wrinkles and lines
- Improve sun-damaged skin
- Correct age spots and pigmentation problems
- Lighten scars, especially those caused by acne
- Treat precancerous skin lesions
The Chemical Peel Procedure
Before your procedure, any active skin disease, infection, or acne needs to be under control in order to maximize results. There are several different types of chemical solutions which can be used, ranging from a mild solution to a very strong one. Dr. Sorokin will select what is best for you based on skin condition, skin color, and desired result. Chemical peels may not be appropriate for darker skin complexions.
During the procedure, Dr. Sorokin first cleanses the skin of oils before carefully applying the chemical solution and allowing it to remain on the skin for a short time. As the solution works, your skin will lighten and give off a frost-like effect. Once the desired effect is achieved, Dr. Sorokin covers the treatment area with a neutralizing solution, cleanses the skin, and applies an ointment to aid in healing.
Recovery Following Chemical Peel
The ointment and dressings applied immediately following surgery aid in the healing process and to minimize swelling. Your skin will have a pinkish color for a limited time after surgery, and a thin crust may form over the area that was treated. Any discomfort following the procedure can be managed with over-the-counter medication. Complications are rare, but you should follow Dr. Sorokin's post-operative directions carefully to minimize risk. Recovery time will vary depending on the extent of the chemical peel.
Through his experience applying chemical peels, New Jersey cosmetic surgeon Dr. Sorokin is able to rejuvenate your skin and give you a youthful complexion.
